A
loving husband, father and grandfather, Rob passed away peacefully surrounded by
his family on August 15, 2020 in Ottawa, Ontario after a lengthy and courageous
battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on August 28, 1932 in Toronto,
Ontario to Eveleen and Alan Gordon.
Rob will forever be missed by Joan, his wife of 63 years, his
sister Geraldine, his beloved children Ian (Jeanne) and Lynn (Brian), and his
adoring grandchildren Lauren, Stuart, Maeve, Andrew, and Ryan.
Rob gave fully of himself in everything he did. A man with a
superb intellect and a warm, outgoing personality who treasured his family, he
was also an avid outdoorsman who loved to cycle, walk, and sail, especially
under a full moon at the cottage in Blue Sea Lake, Quebec, where he spent some
of his happiest days with family and friends. For the last 30 years Rob and Joan
were fortunate to live in the same neighbourhood as their children and
grandchildren. An adoring grandfather, he shared his time, love, and knowledge
with his five grandchildren regularly.
Rob graduated from the University of Toronto in 1956 with a Bachelor of Applied
Science in Electrical Engineering. He met the love of his life Joan Nelson on
July 1, 1956. The first 3 years of their married life were spent travelling in
Germany, Italy, Belgium, and France where Rob worked for Canadian Applied
Research Ltd. training NATO air forces on the use of a navigational computer for
interceptor aircraft. On his return to Canada, he applied his expertise to a
variety of electronic projects at Litton Systems and Ferranti Electronics.
In 1965 he joined the Canadian federal government in
Ottawa and worked for various departments for over 25 years, finishing his
career in 1990 as the Assistant Deputy Minister for Spectrum Management at the
Department of Communications.
Post retirement, Rob applied his extensive knowledge at
the CRTC as a commissioner, and as a highly regarded board member with Teklogix
in Toronto.
A celebration of Rob's life will be held in the near future. If
you would like to attend or learn more please email RAGCelebration@gmail.com
In lieu of flowers, an "In Memory" donation in Rob's name to
Parkinson Canada at Parkinson.ca or to a charity of your choice would be
appreciated.
